Facing God’s Mirror - Moving Beyond Performance

"For years, I held up that mirror for others while refusing to look into it myself." - Diary of a Troubled Preacher

James compares the Word of God to a mirror (James 1:23 - 24). I knew how to preach holiness, teach doctrine, and hold that mirror up to convince congregations to repent, but I consistently ducked away when it was held back up to me.

One night, sitting on my brown couch reading about covenant marriage, something inside me broke. I wept uncontrollably, crying, "Lord, I'm sorry. I didn't know." But the sobering truth was, I did know. I just didn't want to see my reflection. Avoiding God's mirror cost me credibility, integrity, and relationships. The very Word that was meant to heal me became the Word I resisted.

Reflection for Readers

Where in your life have you been holding up standards for others while avoiding looking into the mirror of God’s Word yourself?

Closing Thought

The Word of God isn't a magnifying glass to inspect others - it’s a mirror to transform you.
