The Collateral Damage: When Brokenness Bleeds onto Others

A man kneeling beside still water as a stone creates wide ripples, with the title The Collateral Damage: When Brokenness Bleeds onto Others

Post 1.3

Chapter 1: Starting with the Truth

“Your brokenness doesn't stay with you, it bleeds onto others.”
Diary of a Troubled Preacher

One of the most painful deceptions of secret sin is believing it only affects you. I told myself my battles were private, but Romans 14:7 declares that none of us lives or dies to ourselves alone. My hidden brokenness wasn't a private matter, it created public destruction.

My children carried the weight of my emotional instability. My spouses endured the strain of my lust. My congregations witnessed my spiritual hypocrisy. I even developed a habit of “ghosting,” disappearing silently whenever conflict arose and leaving a trail of unhealed wounds in people's souls. Facing the truth means taking ownership of the fallout and recognizing that sin always creates collateral damage.

Reflection for Readers

Who in your life has been impacted by the unaddressed pain or patterns you’ve carried? How can you begin steps toward accountability today?

Closing Thought

Sin promises private satisfaction, but it always demands public collateral. Healing begins when we own the ripple effect.
